Stuff Not Made in China on Black Friday / Cyber Monday 2024

Black Friday Week Begins!

We’ve been through Prime Day and Prime Big Deals Day. This coming week starting on Thursday, November 21 and continuing to Monday, December 2, Amazon is going to be hosting “Black Friday Week”. That’s right, Amazon want you to shop not just on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but for 12 whole days.

I’ll be monitoring Amazon every day and looking for the best deals for things not made in China, especially higher ticket items you might have been waiting all year to buy.

Of course in order to take advantage of these deals, you’ll need to sign up for Amazon Prime. If you just want access for Black Friday, you can always just sign up for a 30 day free trial.

As for me, I’ve kind of justified the $139/year rate in my head because of Prime Video, Amazon Music, Free No-Rush Shipping, 5% back on my Amazon Visa, and Amazon Photos. You can see all the benefits here. For me, these definitely are worth $140/year, but YMMV.

As I see deals, I’ll add them to the top of the list. I’ll focus mainly on things I see in the top 50 best sellers, which Amazon is always updating.

11/30/24 update: well, another Black Friday has come and gone. Even though the prices are going to go back up, I’ll leave this list up until next year. I was happy to see that a lot of brands are diversifying away from China, but it’s still very much baby steps—for every brand that makes something out of China, a China manufacturer (or even a competing brand) seems to make an almost exact rip-off of the product and sells it for less.

The one category that seems to be safest is high-end beauty and makeup: at least some consumers instinctively know not to put gunk from a polluted, animal-unfriendly country on their face. Similarly, higher end electronics and appliances are increasingly made outside of China—not nearly as much as it should be, but certainly better than is used to be. Again, more and more consumers are seeing through the lies that made in China is the same quality as made in most other places.
