Back when I was growing up, there was only one name in metronomes: Wittner.
I was happy to see that Wittner still makes its Metronomes in Germany. The precision and quality, not surprising, are still far superior than cheap imitations you can find anywhere (and make no mistake: some of these China manufacturers do everything they can to copy Wittner's look. But they can't copy the German engineering and manufacturing, no matter how hard they try.
The Wittner 836 in the 830 series is their top rated one. As of this writing it sells for about $60.
Their Model 811 (pictured below) is the classic, pyramid-shaped metronome, widely considered the industry standard for piano rooms and classical musicians
