This is a topic I've done a fair amount of research on, but since sofas are so personal and there are so many options, I figured I'd post my findings as a forum post in case anyone wanted to add their thoughts. I also covered many of these brands on a broader level in my post about furniture brands in general.
These were the consensus "top picks" that I found based on how many review sites listed them as "the best".
1) Benchmade Modern Skinny Fat Sofa - Come up in multiple lists year after year, including Wirecutter and The Spruce. Made in Dallas and LA.
2) Burrow Nomad Sofa - Named by The Spruce as the best overall sofa. Made in Vietnam (although contact them directly to make sure that's still the case)
3) Room & Board Metro Sofa - Named by Real Simple and Wirecutter as another best overall couch. Made in North Carolina
4) Sabai Essential - Recommended by The Strategist. Made in North Carolina.
5) Maiden Home Varick - Featured as category winners in Real Simple. Made in North Carolina.
6) Crate and Barrel Oceanside - Named by The Strategist as "best overall". Made in the USA.
