Strong biodegradable (compostable) plates not made in China

One of the worst consequences of cheap China products flooding into our borders is the explosion of "disposable" plastic plates, spoons, forks, knives, and other tableware that we use once and then toss into that magical trash chute. Americans have been brainwashed into thinking that it disappears. Not only does it not disappear, it never disappears. It'll sit for hundreds of years in a landfill and maybe eventually get broken into microplastics that enter our water supply and our bodies.

I got sick of the htought of using plastic, so I went onto Amazon to shop for plates that were disposable, biodegradable, and compostable. I found a brand called "GreenWorks" that was sold by a company called "GreenTide". It was the #1 recommended product on Amazon. But of course, when I looked up the seller, here's what I saw:

I saw another product from a company called "Stack Man", based in Brooklyn and which had over 22,000 reviews. But it didn't list country of origin anywhere. After digging and digging, I found this review:

All my research before ordering did not show any information on where this product was made! Even looking up STACKMAN did not reveal WHERE they were made. Product delivered today and when I checked the plastic wrapper there in tiny print near the bottom: Manufactured in P.R.C. and upon more research found it means: Peoples Republic of China! DUPED AGAIN! Ugh! I'm returning them!


I tried to find where this product was made. Finally when I received it, found it. UGH! China. Do we want to eat off of Chinese plates. I only wanted them for sandwiches. I may be paranoid, but.... I don't want things from China. And, I want *Made in China* upfront and readable!


These were two reviews that magically got past Amazon's filters—the vast majority reviews that mention China in a negative light are censored for somehow "violating Amazon's terms of use".

I was further horrified to see that every single product on Amazon's first page of search results was from China, from companies like "hangzhouduoqiandianzishangwuyouxiangongsi" and "Guangzhou Lehang dianzikeji youxian gongsi"

After a lot of searching, I found a few good options. I'm sure there are more, so feel free to post other brands that you see.

1) ANYSAFE by E&W - These are made by a South Korean company out of their factories in Vietnam. It is by far the most sturdy compostable plate I've ever used. It's super-strong, super-sturdy, and holds up to hot and moist food amazingly well.



2) Repurpose Eco-Dinner Plates - I'm always perplexed as to why companies like this choose to hide their country of origin. They make these in Taiwan, but for some reason seem hesitant to mention it on their product page. I really wish companies would be wiser and shout it from the rooftops; if they don't mention the country of origin, the natural assumption is that it's made in China.
