This is one of those sad product categories where I asked AI and it gave me a lot of information that was simply wrong, since it pulled its information from blogs with incorrect information. I don't blame the blogs whose content was accurate at one point—from first-hand experience it can be difficult to constantly keep all the information up-to-date). But AI also pulled from blogs that clearly lied about country of origin to try to trick people into clicking affiliate links. That's not good.
Here are some things I've been able to find out for sure:
1)
Snapper's site says that SOME of their walk-behind mowers are made in Wisconsin and New York. Unfortunately their site doesn't list any walk-behind mowers at all, much less corded ones.
2) Someone over on Reddit
posted three months ago that EGO is in the process of moving all its production to Vietnam. But EGO is owned by Chervon, which is a China-owned company.
Black & Decker, Greenworks, Craftsman, LawnMaster, and American Lawn Mower (ironically) are all made in China and they dominate the market. Our best hope will be that tariffs force some of the American brands to start looking elsewhere for manufacturing. But sadly, similar to other industries it looks like the supply chains, factories, and know-how are all but dominated by China now.
I'll continue to keep an eye out. Hope others can chime in too if they hear anything.
