Best garlic press not made in China

Post by steve »

For some reason this is a fairly popular thing that people search for here :) Thought I'd give a few options.

1. Westmark Germany Good old Fashioned Garlic Press - Made in Germany

This looks like a nice, old-school garlic press where you crush your garlic and it'll separate the peel and send the fresh garlic through the little holes. Because it's made in Germany it'll last forever.

2. Fantes No-Peel, Self Cleaning Garlic Press - Made in Taiwan

Here's an Italian-style garlic press, made in Taiwan. Reviewers say it provides some of the best leverage among all options.

3. Ghidini Garlic Press - Made in Italy

Here's an Italian garlic press that's made in Italy! Ghidini is more famous for making corkscrews, but their garlic press is a hit too.

4. Garlic Press, Metal - Made in Ukraine

Here's one that's made in Ukraine, of all places. A great buy if you want to show some support to the local communities there.

5. Japanese Garlic Press - Made in Ireland

Well, if we can have Italian presses made in Taiwan, why not Japanese presses made in Ireland? This brand seems pretty legit

6. Japanese Garlic Press - Made in the USA

Last but not least there's this cool looking contraption, made in the USA.

Garlic press not made in China

Post by steve »

Anyone who's been paying attention knows that the Section 301 tariffs that have been in place since 2017 have done a lot to diversify manufacturing and supply chains. I still remember when I started this blog a few years ago I could walk into any major retailer or clothing store and find 100% of their products made in China. Today, I see all kinds of countries represented, from Vietnam to India to Bangladesh to Germany. China still holds the lead, of course, but at least others are in the game.

Garlic presses are one of those products that you'd think would have diversified. But go to Amazon and you'll still predominantly see China manufacturers. What this tells you is that even with the tariff in place, China manufacturers have such a hold on the market that they still can dominate Amazon search results by flooding the market, ensuring that manufacturers from other countries never rank and thus, are never seen.

But if you take the time to look, you can find some really nice alternatives to made in China with better quality and comparable or even lower prices. Here are just a few

up to $10
Norpro Garlic Press (Zinc Alloy) - Made in Taiwan

Norpro Garlic Press (Aluminum) - Made in Taiwan

Fantes No-Peel, Self Cleaning Garlic Press - Made in Taiwan

Ghidini Garlic Press - Made in Italy

Joseph Joseph Garlic Rocker - Made in the UK

$10-20
Norpro Grip-EZ Garlic Press - Made in Taiwan

$20-30
Trudeau Maison Garlic Press - Made in Canada

$30-40
Rösle Rosle Stainless Steel Mincing Garlic Press - Made in Germany

I love my Ghidini. Can't believe I can still get something on Amazon from Italy for under $10.
